Palo Alto bans RV street rentals and detached trailers

A Gen X couple sold their Michigan house in 2019 and have been living and working from a motorhome since. They purchased the 45-foot motorhome for $211,000, with monthly costs including $1,200–$1,500 for RV park fees and significant budgets for internet and entertainment. They are now establishing a home base in Texas to reduce the wear and tear of constant travel.

The Hannibal Inspections Office and Police Department reminded residents about the ordinance against illegal RV parking. Violators are given a 10-day period to vacate, followed by a fine of $137 every 24 hours. Officials cite fire hazards from space heaters and instances of power theft as key safety concerns.

An RV was fully engulfed in flames at an intersection in Oceanside, California. The owner escaped unharmed, and the cause is under investigation. A section of Oceanside Boulevard was closed to traffic.

The National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) has launched an expanded RV Inspector Training Program. The enhanced program offers more hands-on labs with real RVs and field experience at Texan RV Park. The updated curriculum places greater emphasis on practical observational skills and evaluating RV systems.

The RV Industry Association (RVIA) has completed the integration of the RV-C protocol into its website. Members can now access the current specification, test procedures, and technical forum directly through the standards section. This facilitates easier access to tools for ensuring interoperability between components in motorhomes and travel trailers.

Owners rented out their motorhome via the Outdoorsy platform, which prohibits use at festivals. The renter deceived them by taking it to Burning Man 2025 in Nevada, where the vehicle sustained damage from hurricane-force winds. The platform denies coverage for the damages, and the owners are suing the renter, having evidence of the deception.
