Chilean authorities remove five motorhomes from Ike Ike beach for illegal rental

Chilean authorities conducted a joint operation to remove motorhomes from Ike Ike beach in Iquique. The operation was led by Carabineros from the 4th Cavancha Commissary of the Iquique Prefecture.

A family from Spain completed a year-long journey through Chile in a car converted into a motorhome. The project, named Nomadawana, began after 45-year-old Jair López left his job in Spanish television and his life in Madrid.

Chile's Maritime Authority has proposed that Iquique municipality establish designated areas for motorhomes by the summer of 2027. The goal is to end unauthorized coastal occupations and regulate the traditional camping practice. The initiative aims to provide safe infrastructure and maintain public beach access for all tourists.

Dozens of motorhomes have occupied the Ike-Ike beach in the city of Iquique, Chile. Locals accuse families using these vehicles of taking over the resort area, preventing other people from setting up their tents.
