Campervan holidays provide access to remote areas of Cumbria

Storm Chandra has caused extensive flooding across the UK. Authorities evacuated 80 residents from a caravan park in Dorset under a severe danger-to-life warning and declared a major incident in Somerset, where around 50 properties were affected. Hundreds of flood warnings remain in place nationwide, with further rain expected.

A UK resident halved her working hours after moving into a motorhome. Sherry Smith, 62, purchased the motorhome for £20k following a divorce and now saves £900 monthly on rent. She parks for free on clients' properties and saves £400 each month.

Residents near the Sandown Castle Community Garden in Deal are complaining about campervans parking in front of their homes and blocking driveways. The local council is currently examining possible solutions to the issue.

Tim Knight, 37, has saved over £20,000 since moving into a converted LDV Maxus minibus in October 2022, cutting monthly housing costs by more than £400. He purchased the van for £1,800 and spent an additional £2,000 converting it. Knight cites freedom from neighbors as a benefit but acknowledges the lifestyle complicates his love life.

Custom roof covers for caravans have been introduced in the UK. The silver-colored covers are waterproof and UV-proof. They are available in sizes ranging from 12 to 25 feet.

Cornwall Council has launched a public consultation on new parking measures. The proposals include allowing overnight stays for self-contained motorhomes in ten additional car parks, while banning them at several other locations, and introducing charges at some currently free sites. The consultation is open until February 4.
