Workers in Málaga live in motorhomes due to housing costs

A couple has spent four years living full-time in a camper van while traveling across Spain. They report using only two butane gas bottles per year for their energy needs, highlighting an extreme example of minimalist mobile living.

Authorities in the Cabo de Gata–Níjar Natural Park in Andalusia have tightened controls on motorhomes and camper vans. Environmental agents have evicted vehicles parked illegally in sensitive coastal areas and temporarily closed some parking zones due to saturation. Fines for breaching environmental regulations can exceed 200 euros.

A new camper van model has been introduced to the market. It is positioned as one of the most comfortable in its class due to its well-designed interior and extensive standard equipment.

Juanma and Tony moved from a conventional apartment to a 5-square-meter motorhome. Over four years, they have minimized expenses, using only two 12-kilogram butane bottles per year for heating and relying on solar panels for electricity.

Authorities in San Sebastián have restricted overnight parking for motorhomes and camper vans in coastal areas, but residents report ongoing violations. Locals cite parking shortages and unsanitary practices by some tourists, who use sidewalks for daily activities. The conflict intensified after Spain's DGT redefined regulations, distinguishing 'parking' from 'camping', which limits municipal control over such vehicles.

The Spanish motorhome, camper van, and caravan market saw significant growth in February 2026. Registrations of new motorhomes and camper vans increased by 84.3% to 796 units, while caravans rose by 52.6% to 116 units. The key driver was the rental channel, which registered 329 new vehicles to renew its fleet.
