Caravan overturned by storm in Tomar

The municipality of Melgaço is studying the installation of a motorhome park. Mayor José Albano Domingues met with the European service area network CampingCarPark at the Lisbon Tourism Exchange to analyze the project's feasibility. The goal is to develop local tourism and attract new visitors.

Storm Kristin overturned a caravan in the Junceira parish of Tomar municipality. The incident occurred on January 28, with the owner not present at the time and thus unharmed. The resident has requested assistance as she is unable to rectify the situation on her own.

The European network of motorhome service areas, Camping-Car Park, reported record results for 2025. Sales volume increased by 31% to 35 million euros, while overnight stays rose by 15% to 4.85 million. In Portugal, the Lavos service area was the most notable, with over 85% of its overnight stays attributed to foreign visitors.

The Portuguese motorhome and camper van rental platform Indie Campers has acquired the UK-based brands Just Go and Bunk Campers from New Zealand's THL. The deal will expand the company's pickup locations in the UK and Ireland to nine. Indie Campers will maintain the acquired brands as distinct offerings within the group.

The integration of 5G/6G connectivity, hybrid and electric powertrains, autonomous driving systems, and smart home automation is expected. The focus is on increasing off-grid capability, comfort, and sustainability for travelers.
